2021 Horn Farm CSA

Registration is closed for this event

The Horn Farm CSA has been an important way for us to connect with you, our local community, since 2016 when we began our farming internship. The internship was designed as a way for people with little to no farming experience to learn to grow a wide range of vegetables for themselves or for market.

As we continue to create a regenerative farmscape by weaving together the fields and forests with perennial crop systems, we are redesigning the Horn Farm CSA as well as our annual Training Programs. In 2021, the Horn Farm Center is partnering with long-time renting farmer and former incubator program participant, Jeremy Kilgore, to increase the number of CSA shares available at the Horn Farm. By partnering with the Kilgore Family Farm, the Horn Farm will be able to feed more families in York County and improve the educational offerings at the farm. And, we are strengthening our interdependence, increasing the diversity on the farm, and supporting one another!

We are aiming to offer the same the range and variety of produce items that you have come to enjoy. We also hope to provide specialty products that grow in the woods and other semi-wild spaces on the farm. Here’s what you can expect….

Seasonal produce - You'll find a selection very much what you've come to expect. There will be plenty of greens, such as lettuces, spinach, and kale, tomatoes, sweet peppers, garlic, beets, summer and winter squash, and potatoes, for example. We will also offer fruit such as watermelon and cantaloupe.

If you’re up for this adventure, there are only a few spots left, so sign up today!

What is a CSA?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. In the CSA model, members of the community pledge support to a farm, with the grower and consumers sharing the risks and benefits of food production. The consumer (shareholder) pays a fee at the beginning of the season in exchange for a regular, weekly share of the harvest. The farmer benefits from the financial support at the beginning of the season and the shareholders benefit from knowing they have a reliable, weekly supply of fresh, seasonal, chemical-free produce. The shareholder understands that the unpredictability of weather, pest problems, and other factors may result in some crops being bountiful while others may suffer setbacks. The CSA model is a relationship connecting the land, the grower, and consumer thereby putting us in closer touch with each other and the land which sustains us.

The CSA season lasts 20 weeks from June until October. Shares are available for on-farm pick-up on Wednesdays at the Horn Farm from 2:30-6:30 PM.

Cost: $750 Full Share (Weekly Pickup) or $400 Half Share (Biweekly Pickup)
