Discover the relationships between some of your favorite garden plants, and learn how to plan your garden to grow more and healthier food.

To ensure a productive and efficient harvest season from our gardens, we must start with an understanding of the site and what our observations and assessment can tell us. Participants will learn about indicator plants and what existing vegetation can tell us about soil quality. Learn about rotations and planting in succession for extended harvest as well as companion planting to create beneficial relationships in the garden. This class will begin in the classroom and concludes outside.

About the Instructor:

Jason Reed is an ecologist recently transplanted from Baltimore City. He is currently hard at work pioneering organic hydroponics and urban soil conservation. He is a garden and agriculture educator with a taste for the joy and the daring of growing and foraging food. He and his wife (a social worker) are currently working to develop new resources for local growers, based on wisdom handed down to us from other cultures. Jason lives just outside of Stewartstown, with a motley crew of goats, chickens, hogs, dogs, cows, cats, and turkeys.
