On Thursday\, July 30th from 6pm to 8pm\, we're seeking volunteers to he lp us tend a 12-acre riparian buffer. Hands on the land are critical as we protect water an d build back biodiversity on retired farmland with out the use of herbicides or large machines. Join us to learn about agroforestry\, land restoration\ , and the local watershed while helping ensure a t hriving educational ecosystem for the future.
\ n \nDepending on the season\, weather\, availa ble materials\, and number of volunteers\, each riparian buffer workday entails one or more of the foll owing tasks:

While plants like willow (Salix spp.)\, dogwood (Cornus spp.)\, viburnum ( Viburnum spp.) and other shrubs support t he health of this streamside ecosystem\, woody cut tings can be harvested each winter for propagation and planting elsewhere--an activity known as live staking. Bringing agriculture and ecosys tem restoration together\, live staking is one exa mple of agroforestry.
\n \n < hr />\nPlease wea r sturdy\, closed-toe shoes\, dress for the weathe r\, and bring your own water bottle (refills will be available). We have gloves on hand for those wh o need them\, though we encourage participants to bring their own gloves. All tools will be provided .
