 g is the act of finding and gathering wild food an
 d medicine - but it is so much more. This course i
 s an invitation to rekindle our age-old relationsh
 ips with the land beneath our feet - to develop th
 e skills\, knowledge\, and practices that are a cr
 itical part of our sense of place. Through this wo
 rk\, we can provide ourselves with healthy\, FREE 
 food and medicine\, become more self-reliant\, and
  connect on a deeper level to the landscape in whi
 ch we live.</p>\n \n <p><br />\n This weekend-long
  session will provide foundational knowledge for t
 hose interested in beginning (or deepening) their 
 path towards building a relationship with the land
 \, incorporating wild plants into their everyday l
 ife\, and gaining the knowledge to confidently sha
 re with others. Expect a diverse array of lecture\
 , conversation\, general plant walks\, hands-on ex
 ercises\, and the opportunity for plenty of tastin
 g of both raw and prepared wild foods. </p>\n \n <
 p><br />\n <strong>Topics covered will include: </

  	<li>Ethical considerations</li>\n 	<li>Basic bot
 any including: terminology\, plant parts\, and pla
 nt families</li>\n 	<li>Plant observation and iden
 tification</li>\n 	<li>Understanding and using pla
 nt keys</li>\n 	<li>Culinary uses - Harvesting\, p
 reparation\, cooking and tasting</li>\n 	<li>Utili
 tarian uses - making natural plant cordage</li>\n 
 </ul>\n \n <p><br />\n <strong>What to bring:</str
 ong></p>\n \n <ul>\n 	<li>Notebook - For taking no
 tes and doing illustrations. Lined and unlined may
  be helpful.</li>\n 	<li>Foraging tool if you have
  them (No need to purchase if not): Pocket knife (
 non-serrated)\, scissors\, gloves\, bags or basket
 . We’ll cover tools in our first class\, if you ne
 ed recommendations. There will be extras to loan i
 f needed.</li>\n 	<li>Field guide if you have one 
 you use already (No need to purchase if not)</li>\
 n 	<li>Water bottle</li>\n 	<li>Lunch/Snack - Each

 n <p><br />\n <strong>Environment: </strong><br />
 \n This class will take place outdoors\, rain or s
 hine\, along walking trails in meadow and woodland
  ecosystems at the Horn Farm. Please check the wea
 ther in advance and dress accordingly.</p>\n \n <p
 ><strong>Accessibility: </strong><br />\n This pro
 gram will involve walking on uneven\, hilly terrai
 n. Be prepared for varied and potentially muddy or
  snowy conditions. Walking pace is leisurely with 
 frequent stops for discussion. </p>\n \n <p><stron
 g>Arrival: </strong><br />\n Parking takes place i
 n the field above the farmhouse. Plan to arrive 10
  minutes early so we can begin the class on time.<
 /p>\n \n <p><strong>Audience: </strong><br />\n Th
 is class is geared towards adult learning\, but ch
 ildren 12 and older are welcome to attend with an 
 adult and separate registration. </p>\n \n <p><str
 ong>Cost: </strong><br />\n The standard cost for 
 this program is $125/person. This includes both da
 ys of the intensive program.</p>\n \n <p><strong>S
 ervice Animals & Pets: </strong><br />\n Service a
 nimals\, active and in-training\, are permitted. A
 ll other animals and pets must remain at home. The
  Horn Farm is a working farm with sensitive restor
 ation areas\, so we only allow animals in cases of
  medical need. </p>\n \n <p><strong>Cancellation: 
 </strong><br />\n All programs are subject to chan
 ge due to unforeseen circumstances including incle

 nthusiast and educator\, avid gardener\, former fa
 rmer\, and has served the Horn Farm Center in vary
 ing capacities for over 15 years. He currently ser
 ves as Farm Manager. Jonathan received his Permacu
 lture Design Certification in 2011 from Susquehann
 a Permaculture and in 2014 completed his Permacult
 ure Teacher Training through Dynamic Ecological De
 sign. He is married with 2 kids and 3 cats.</p></b
