On Wednesday\, September 30th < /strong>from 6pm to 7:30pm\, we're seeking volunte ers to help us tend a 12-acre riparian buffer. Hands on the land are critical as we protect water and build back biodiversity on retired farm land without the use of herbicides or large machin es. Join us to learn about agroforestry\, land res toration\, and the local watershed while helping e nsure a thriving educational ecosystem for the fut ure.
\n \nDepending on the season\, weather \, available materials\, and number of volunteers\ , each riparian buffer workday entails one or more of the following tasks:

While plants like willow (Sal ix spp.)\, dogwood (Cornus spp.)\, v iburnum (Viburnum spp.) and other shrubs support the health of this streamside ecosystem\, woody cuttings can be harvested each winter for pr opagation and planting elsewhere--an activity know n as live staking. Bringing agriculture a nd ecosystem restoration together\, live staking i s one example of agroforestry. \n \n
P lease wear sturdy\, closed-toe shoes\, dress for t he weather\, and bring your own water bottle (refi lls will be available). We have gloves on hand for those who need them\, though we encourage partici pants to bring their own gloves. All tools will be provided.
\n \nThis workday will require minor physica l labor including stooping\, pulling\, shoveling\, and spending time outside in potentially rainy\, hot\, or cold conditions. Be prepared for walking on uneven\, possibly muddy terrain.
