Fall Container Gardening for Pollinators

Registration is closed for this event

Did you know migratory birds and butterflies fly 100+ miles per day? Making that journey requires a lot of fuel and stamina! But what can we do to ensure that our avian and insect friends get to their destination safely?

Join Pollinator Steward, Heather Andrews, at the Horn Farm to learn about the migrating creatures and how we can create our own sun or shade planting this spring to help them sustain their long flights. She will discuss...

  • Host plants for native butterflies and moths
  • What are “keystone” plants in your geography to host the most pollinators possible
  • Strategic combinations of plants will maximize butterfly activity in your garden
  • Why you should be a “lazy gardener” and delay spring clean up to help overwintering butterflies, bugs, moths and birds

She will create 2 demonstration pots during class designed to attract migratory butterflies and hummingbirds. At the end of the presentation, you will select 3 plants to create your own seasonal 'fueling station' at home!  Using plants provided by Calyx Native Nursery, you can customize a sun or shade pot that is rich with plants that will help energize all the migratory species passing through your yard this fall.

The price of the class is $40 and includes 3 native plants for participants to select and take home to plant their own garden.
