Interested in learning the art of growing plants? Understanding a plant’s natural strategies for reproduction is at the core of plant propagation - And the truth is, we don’t so much as grow new plants as set the stage and facilitate them in growing themselves.
In this five hour class, we’ll begin in the classroom with an overview of basic plant propagation - understanding the science of germination, natural reproductive and dispersal strategies, and move to practical hands-on experience in the greenhouse.
Other topics covered will include: Soil planting mediums and containers, seed selection, transplanting, light and watering, seed sourcing and saving, seed treatment, asexual reproduction via cuttings, root division and other types of cloning, and other key concepts and tactics for propagating a diverse variety of plants.
Dress in layers as greenhouse temperatures can vary greatly from cool to hot depending on weather and cloud cover. Portions of the class will be hands on - expect to get a little dirty. Participants will leave with some plant starts to care for and grow at home.
