Detached buttons and torn hems should seem like simple repairs, but in modern times, many of us have not learned how to mend and alter fabrics using needle and thread. In the interest of sustainability, reclaiming second-hand clothing, and ensuring the longevity of our textile goods, it's worth taking the time to learn the fundamentals of sewing!
So don't throw away your torn or buttonless clothing! Our friends from the Teaching Museum for the Fiber Arts and Textiles will come to the rescue. In this program, two experienced sewers and fiber crafters will teach foundational hand sewing stiches for repairing clothes, how to sew on buttons, and more. If you can, bring a favorite piece of clothing that could use some mending. They will provide guidance at the end of class on how to repair it.
Debbie and Pat of the Teaching Museum for the Fiber Arts and Textiles (Felton, PA) learned sewing from their relatives and in school. They've been sewing by hand and machine ever since.
Join us for this fun and informative program as we "thread the needle" on key practical sewing skills!
