See regenerative agriculture in action!
Our work at the Horn Farm brings together locally-rooted agriculture and ecological restoration. Through land stewardship that ranges from home-scale gardening to agroforestry, we're teaching folks in our community how to grow abundant food and fodder while restoring the wellbeing of the ecosystems we depend on.
During our Summer Solstice Market on Saturday, June 21st, you can join us for a guided walking tour of the Horn Farm's stewardship spaces. Two tours will be offered: one at 10:30am and one at 12:30pm. Both will cover the same route / topics, lasting between 1.25 and 1.5 hours each. This registration reserves your spot in the 10:30am tour.
Tour stops will include:
- Rapid-growth mini forests.
- Multifunctional riparian buffers (including elderberries, basketry willows, American hazelnuts, and more.
- Young forest gardens.
- Annual and perennial demonstration gardens.
- Native pollinator gardens.
- Recovering wild spaces with edible and medicinal plants.
- The Horn Farm’s historic facilities: our 19th century farmhouse, summer kitchen, and barns.
Before or after your tour, we invite you to stick around at the Solstice Market! We'll be selling fresh produce and plant starts alongside other local, sustainability-minded vendors. You can also grab a bite from our friends at Locally Seasoned!
Spaces in our walking tours are limited, so pre-registration is encouraged! This tour is free of charge.
Tour Notes:
Environment: Walking will take place fully outdoors. Sun coverage (natural sunscreen, hat, etc.) is encouraged, as shaded spaces on the farm are limited.
Terrain: Expect about 0.5 miles of leisurely walking with frequent stops. The Horn Farm is a working farm, so most walking paths consist of mowed grass with moderately varied terrain. Muddy conditions are possible in certain patches.
Arrival: Tours will begin by gathering around the pollinator gardens outside of our Corn Barn (the smaller of the two red barns across the street from the farmhouse).
Audience: All ages are welcome to join our tours. Children and adults alike will find plenty to learn and enjoy! However, for young kids, we encourage you to check out our Solstice Market Children's Tour taking place at 12pm.
Cancellation: Please note that tours are subject to cancellation in the case of inclement weather.
