Unearth the Fascinating World of Fungi.

Join forager, mycophotographer, and iNaturalist ambassador Sarah LeTourneau for an afternoon of mycological meanderings around the Horn Farm!

This program will begin with an indoor presentation covering the basics of mushroom identification, ecology, and foraging, highlighting common edible and medicinal mushrooms in the Lower Susquehanna Riverlands. We'll then shift outdoors to explore the fields and forests of the Horn Farm in search of fall fungi! 

What we find will depend on weather, but along the way, Sarah will discuss indicators of mushroom habitat, helpful ID tools, and stories from the field. Whether you're a curious beginner or a bona fide fungi enthusiast, this class will deepen your appreciation for the hidden world of mushrooms and their roles in both nature and our lives.

What to Bring

• Weather-appropriate clothing for spending time in wild spaces.
  • Sturdy, closed-toe shoes and head covering recommended.
• Notebook and writing utensil.
• Reusable water bottle (refills available on site) and backpack snacks as desired. 

Program Notes: 

Environment: Weather allowing, this class will take place partially outdoors. Be prepared for walking along uneven terrain in a wooded setting with possible muddy conditions.

Arrival: Parking takes place in the field above the farmhouse. Plan to arrive 10 minutes early so we can begin each class on time. More details about parking will be communicated in a reminder email days before the program. 

Audience: While this class is suited for adult learning, children are welcome to attend. Any child above 13 must be registered separately. Children 12 and younger may attend without charge, but must be accompanied by a registering adult.

Cost: The standard cost for this program is $32/person. Sliding scale options are available to support accessibility.

Dogs: Since the Horn Farm is a working farm with active restoration spaces, we do not allow dogs in our programs. Thank you for understanding.

About the Instructor:

Sarah LeTourneau

Sarah Le Tourneau is a mushroom huntress, Myco-photographer, citizen scientist and forager. Born and raised in the Green Mountains of Vermont, she went on to attend Global College where she studied in India and Central America. She got her start working in wilderness education in rural New Mexico and continued to work as an educator and workforce development specialist. She has been a resident of Lancaster county for seven years now and has been immersing herself in the wild spaces around the region since she arrived. Her interests in mycology are rooted both in a love for healthy ecosystems and in human development. She believes that the many uses of fungi offer a more sustainable path into the future.
