Backyard Maple Sugaring

Registration is closed for this event
Learn how to harvest sap and make maple syrup in your own backyard!

Do you enjoy the sweet taste of maple syrup on your waffles and pancakes? Are you curious about the possibility of tapping maple trees in your own yard? Perhaps you are tired of being cooped up inside during the winter months and looking for a fun reason to get outside and try something new.

Maple sugaring is in full swing in the month of February. Join us at the Horn Farm for an introduction to the process from start to finish. In this class, you will learn a brief history about maple sugaring as well as what equipment is needed. Then, we will venture into the woods to tap a tree and demonstrate how to process the sap in your own backyard! Come prepared for cold and possibly snowy weather! There will be walking so sturdy walking shoes/boots are recommended. This class is family and child friendly, but children must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is per person, regardless of age.

About the Instructors:

Lizzy and Tyler Echard are backyard maple sugaring hobbyists. Lizzy is an Environmental Educator with DCNR and Tyler works with the Adams County Conservation District. They have been maple sugaring together for many years and enjoy tweaking their processes and sharing experiences with others who are interested in learning the ins and outs of backyard maple sugaring
