Functional Movement for Everyday Life

Registration is closed for this event
Movement for the field, the forest and the functionality of everyday life.

This outdoor movement class is informed by the various tasks one might find themselves doing in the garden, in the wild spaces around their house or local park, or just while living their lives. The main goal is to begin to develop a new “movement lens” and to build physical resilience by moving, breathing and observing. Join us for this one-of-a-kind class  as we explore natural movement, breathwork, specific body part exercises, functional/dynamic movements and restorative stretches

As it is our first run of this class, we invite you to join us at no cost and help us shape the design of our future Movement class curriculum so that we can authentically meet people where they are at with appropriate physical challenges.

Throughout the class we aim to cover a variety of objectives such as:

  • A chance to connect with the natural environment
  • Opportunity to develop tools to become more resilient movers
  • Honing a ground up approach to strengthening and mobilizing ankles, knees, hips, back, and shoulders
  • Performing dynamic movement groupings that get hearts rate up and blood flowing
  • Mastering breathing cues that allow for efficiency and ease and promote energy and wellbeing
  • Implementing restorative stretches that address tightness and soreness so we can keep moving well day after day

About the Instructor:

Born in York County, Andrew earned his Business Management degree from Shippensburg University. After graduation, Andrew traveled with World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF) to New Zealand, where he lived and learned on organic farms. Captivated by his experience, Andrew wanted to continue his journey in small-scale agriculture and sought to find a place where he could apply, develop and learn new skills. He found the Horn Farm Center through an Introduction to Permaculture class. Since successful completion of the Farming Internship, Andrew has pursued his career in farming as the Farm Manager at the Horn Farm Center. He runs the Horn Farm Plant Sale & Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Program, manages the Community Gardens, and guides participants through hands-on instruction in the Land Steward Training Program.

Even though Andrew considered himself "active", after a few short years of farm and forest work, he realized that if he wanted to be a land steward for life he would have to pay closer attention to how he was using his body. He took steps to try and understand practices to bolster and prepare for any number of dynamic tasks (and low energy/static tasks too) and ways to recover and address acute soreness/discomfort. While not certified in any specific movement modality Andrew practices MovNat, Yoga, and trains KneesOverToes on a daily basis.
