Raising insects for food and farm use can be fun, entertaining and rewarding - and meet many different needs.
Join William Padilla-Brown for discussion and demonstrations as he takes us on a journey through many different insects and invertebrates - starting with our two ancient aquatic invertebrates, Brine Shrimp and Triops, then our Subterranean Red Wiggler worms, followed by crickets, roaches, mealworms, waxworms, superworms, BSF larvae, hornworms, their beetles, moths, and flies!
Participants will get hands-on time, setting up small habitats to take home with choice of crickets, roaches, mealworms, and/or Red Wiggler Worms. The course will end with a demonstration on how to cook with edible insects and participants who wish may participate in an Entomophagy (the eating of insects).
About the instructor:
William Padilla-Brown is a Social entrepreneur, Urban Shaman, Citizen Scientist, Poet, Mycologist, Amateur Phycologist, and a Certified Permaculture designer. William has spent most of his life traveling the world, stopping at such places as The Pyramid of the Sun, Olmec Ruins in Villahermosa and Campeche Mexico, England, France, Taiwan, and various States on the East and West coast of Northern America. He has run a non-profit in New Cumberland called Community Compassion for the past 4 years focusing on Radical Sustainability, and operates MycoSymbiotics, LLC - a small mycological research and mushroom production business. He has educated children and adults on topics varying from Mushroom Cultivation to Nutrition via. various workshops and programs in Pennsylvania, Maryland, DC, Delaware, and Colorado. William dropped out of High School at age 16 and has since been perusing a Non-traditional Independent approach to his Higher Education actively promoting alternative education options. William received a certification in Permaculture from Susquehanna Permaculture, and NGOZI.
