In the fall session of our Walk th e Seasons series\, we'll tour the wild gardens \, meadows\, and forests of the Horn Farm Center t o enrich our understanding of the world around us\ , focusing closely on the signs and activities of the season.
\n \nTune into the rhythms of the natural wor ld and (re)discover our place in the ecological we bs that support us. We'll engage closely with the flora and fauna we find along the way\, f ostering a deeper appreciation for local ecology\, natural history\, and the simple ways we can take care of the earth by asking\, "what would nature do?"
\n \nWalk the Seasons programs are a bit spontaneous\, but t here are certain things we can expect to encounter this time of year\, including: late-season wildfl owers\, host plants\, fruits\, and greens\; clues to animal activities this time of year\; and other indications of cooling days and lengthening night s.
\n \nGeneral topics we can expect to scratch the surface on in clude:
\n \nWhether you’re an avid naturalist or are just starting to spend more time outdoors\, you'll leave this program with a renewed sense of wonder ment\, some practical knowledge about our region's plant and animal life\, and perhaps solid footing to build deeper\, more reciprocal relationship wi th the spaces you know.
\n \nEnvironment: This class will take place outdoors. Please check the w eather in advance and dress accordingly. Be prepar ed for walking on uneven terrain and potentially m uddy conditions. Class will proceed RAIN OR SHINE\ , except in cases of highly inclement weather.
\n \nArrival: Parking takes place in the field above the farmhouse. Plan t o arrive 10 minutes early so we can begin the clas s on time.
\n \nAudience: This program is suitable for all ages and app ropriate for families. Please note\, however\, tha t there'll be a fair bit of walking on varying ter rain.
\n \nCost: This pro gram is being offered with financial accessibility in mind. Registration is "pay what you can" with a $5 minimum donation. Young children accompanying an adult may attend without charge.

Growing up in a rural town called Sweet Valley\, just south o f Ricketts Glen\, Andrew spent his life fostering a love for the PA wilds. He attended Muhlenberg Co llege in Allentown and majored in English Literatu re and Music Composition while exploring regional ecology\, slow food\, composting\, gardening\, and foraging in the spaces between. This eventually l ed him to the staff of the Horn Farm Center\, wher e\, as Community Engagement Coordinator\, he organ izes educational opportunities\, coordinates volun teers\, runs social media\, blogs\, and assists wi th development and outreach projects.
\n \nAndrew is an avid forager and student of wild spa ces\, interested in rekindling ways of living on t he landscape that are place-sourced and mutually n uturing. In 2023\, he had the privilege of enrichi ng his experience by taking the Horn Farm Center's Land Steward Training Program. Beyond the Horn Fa rm\, Andrew leads a book club for the Lancaster Co mposting Co-Ops\, volunteers as a land steward wit h the Lancaster Conservancy\, and spends Saturdays selling produce at Green Circle Organics in Lanca ster Central Market.
