Create a one-of-a-kind cyanotype portrait featuring someone special in your life, whether a loved one or a beloved pet! Before the workshop, participants will submit a high-resolution photograph, which will be converted into a custom 3 x 5-inch negative to use during the class. The finished prints make thoughtful, handmade holiday gifts or meaningful keepsakes to display in your own home.
The workshop begins with an introduction to the cyanotype process, followed by a closer look at photographic negatives, object transparency, and how exposure times influence contrast and detail in the final print. Participants will have the opportunity to experiment with layering their portraits alongside small transparent objects, fabrics, and other materials to create unique compositions and decorative frames. You're also welcome to explore a wide selection of dried plants from Liz's personal botanical archive to incorporate into your designs.
Participants will leave with multiple original cyanotype prints of their portrait, along with their custom negative to continue experimenting at home. A basic understanding of film photography is helpful but not required. This is an indoor workshop, with the option to print outdoors, weather permitting.

Her site-specific work originated from her interest in local conservation efforts, and she takes her practice outdoors as a form of creative documentation of the landscape she’s in.
She received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and currently exhibits her work and hosts classes locally. When she’s not in her studio, Liz can be found in her garden, at the beach, or enjoying time on the sofa with her partner and their retired racing greyhound, Obie.
