Self-Guided Walking Tour
We welcome you to explore the grounds of the Horn Farm at your leisure. Follow our self-guided walking tour for a blend of local history and land-based learning. Along the way, you’ll see agroforestry and regenerative farming in action while learning about future-minded approaches to meeting local needs.

Directions
From Lancaster / Route 30 West: take the exit toward PA-462/Hallam and turn right onto Kreutz Creek Road. After 0.5 miles, turn right onto Horn Road. Continue on Horn Road for 0.5 miles, then turn left to enter the parking area.
From York / Route 30 East: take the exit toward PA-462/Hallam and turn left onto Kreutz Creek Road. After 0.5 miles, turn right onto Horn Road. Continue on Horn Road for 0.5 miles, then turn left to enter the parking area.
Parking
General Parking: For visitors who do not require handicap parking, space is available in the grass field across from our farmhouse. Enter the field via a rocky driveway across from the house and turn left to park.
Handicap Parking: Two accessible spaces are located in the lot next to the farmhouse.
Restrooms
Two accessible public restrooms with composting toilets are located in a red wooden structure on the south side of the farmhouse.
Distance and Terrain
The self-guided walking tour covers about 0.75 miles on mostly flat terrain with some areas of gentle sloping and variation.
All walking areas are mowed grass paths. Expect muddy patches if rain has fallen recently.
The tour can be extended with additional paths through the Horn Farm’s woodlands, which include more rugged terrain. See the farm tour map and guideposts for directions to the woodlands.
Preparedness
With many unshaded areas along the tour route, we encourage visitors to wear a hat and consider sun-protection. If using insect repellant, please use natural, gentle products. Long pants and sturdy, closed-toe shoes are also encouraged.
Visitors should pack in a water cannister. No filling stations are available unless the farmhouse is open and accepting walk-ins.

Walking Tour Sights
Historic Facilities
The walking tour begins at our center for operations–the 19th century brick farmhouse and accompanying summer kitchen with a PA Dutch-style squirrel tail oven.
Learn about the Horn Farm’s story, from its 18th-century roots to the present. Catch a glimpse of daily life for a York County farming family during the 1800s, and see how recent renovations have transformed this space into a sustainable learning center.
Conservation Landscapes
The Horn Farm Center’s focus on regenerative farming has led to extensive restoration projects involving hundreds of volunteers and over 17,000 trees!
For farmers, restoration doesn’t have to mean downsizing. The walking tour continues with a visit to one of two multifunctional riparian buffers, where conservation meets farming in surprising ways. Learn about crops that blur the line between agriculture and ecological restoration, and innovative approaches to supporting nature in unlikely places.
Demonstration Field
What do basketry willows, the pawpaw fruit, and elderberries have in common? All are part of the Horn Farm Center’s efforts to grow awareness and skills for practicing agroforestry in Pennsylvania and beyond.
The demonstration field is an outdoor classroom for program participants, from aspiring growers in our multi-week training programs to school students planting for the first time. The final leg of this tour spotlights the Horn Farm Center’s main outdoor teaching space, where skills like regenerative farming and gardening, foraging, natural arts and crafts, and ecological literacy come together.

Walking Tour Rules
Visiting Hours
Visitors can enjoy the self-guided walking tour any time between dawn and dusk. No nighttime visits allowed.
Animal Policy
With the exception of service animals that are active or in training, please leave all animals and pets at home. Service dogs must be leashed at all times.
Prohibited Items
The Horn Farm is an alcohol and tobacco-free space. No smoking, vaping, drinking, or recreational drug-use is allowed. Weapons are also prohibited on the property.
Unauthorized Vehicles
Motorized vehicles are permitted only on designated roads, driveways, and parking areas.
UTVs, ATVs, dirt bikes, and other unauthorized recreational motorized vehicles are prohibited anywhere on the property, including wooded areas, trails, and farm fields. Unauthorized vehicle use may result in removal from the property and liability for any damages.
Thank you for helping protect our working farm and natural areas.
Respecting the Land: Leave No Trace
Please remain on designated paths and refrain from damaging or harvesting plants. Pack out what you pack in: don’t be a litter bug!
Visitors are not permitted to gather food or materials from agroforestry systems or community gardens; however, if you are interested in interacting with these growing spaces hands-on, check out upcoming classes or volunteer workdays. If you encounter wildlife during your visit, please treat them kindly.
Limited Access Areas
Community Gardens: visitors may walk the mowed paths between the gardens. However, entering garden plots is not permitted.
Demonstration Field: next to the pawpaw orchard and red barns, visitors will find a large growing field surrounded by a metal, electrified fence. Access to this field is not permitted if the gates are closed. Visitors are welcome to tour the field during special events, scheduled group tours, classes, or volunteer workdays.
