Horn Farm Happenings – August 16, 2019

This week we’d like to give a big thank you to two companies that support the Horn Farm Center year after year.

A long time supporter is the FirstEnergy Foundation. MetEd not only supplies our electricity, they also support the Horn Farm financially. On Wednesday, MetEd External Affairs Manager Joe Malda (right) presented a check for $1000 to Executive Director Alyson Earl and Horn Farm Board Treasurer Shayne Smith.FirstEnergy Check Presentation

In June, the Horn Farm received a generous donation of $5,000 from Rutter’s Farm Stores. The money supports the Horn Farm’s expanding programs for children and youth in 2019.
In addition to classes held at the farm such as The Living Landscape, the donation also supports an exciting partnership with the Boys and Girls Club. Horn Farm staff are teaching gardening practices to Boys and Girls Club staff at the clubhouse in Columbia. Staff are then able to pass on these skills to kids at the clubhouse. This offers many kids their first gardening experience. They get the opportunity to tend, harvest, and eat a variety of fresh produce and herbs. The pilot program has the potential to reach 8000 kids who spend time at the four clubhouses in Lancaster County!

While class fees cover some of the costs of programs offered by the Horn Farm, it is the generosity of local business and people like you that allows us to do what we do. Thank you for your support!
