New for 2025, the Horn Farm Center worked alongside local Artist, Steph Holmes, to create this one-of-a-kind, mission-driven nature design. The collage-style graphic features three beloved root crops found throughout our farm: wild parsnip, dandelion, and garlic. Each root holds a special meaning, and collectively the plants tell the story of Horn Farm Center’s mission. Keep scrolling to read the intention behind each element choice below!

Description

Parsnip, the bridge between the worlds of wild and cultivated food. This root reminds us that all crops grown in modern agriculture have wild origins, helping us see that the best wisdom for growing food comes from the ecosystems around us.

Dandelion, is a symbol of resilience. Dandelion will always find a way to keep growing, even in the poorest soils and toughest conditions. What is a common weed to some is actually hardy and abundant food and medicine. Dandelion reminds us of the land’s true generosity, and reflects the Horn Farm’s own story of resilience, from our founding through rebuilding from our farmhouse fire.

Garlic. Always the community-oriented crop, garlic seed is saved, shared, and passed down from generation to generation, with each selection improving its suitability for its growing conditions. Garlic teaches us care, reciprocity, and our responsibilities to future generations to foster a regenerative future.
